Why Financial Freedom by Forty?

Do you ever have that feeling that there just has to be something more than slogging away at your desk all day every day?

Yep, me too.

A few years back I had a corporate job in a big law firm in the city. It was my dream job, and I was so excited to be there.

It was my first full time job after having my boys, and returning to the corporate world initially felt rather liberating.

However, after a few months I started to wonder what on earth I had gotten myself into.

Having gone from the flexibility of working in our property business and working part time as a property coach, I suddenly felt trapped.

I realised pretty quickly that I didn’t want to spend my days tied to a desk in a corporate office in the city. I realised I had to find a better way.

In fact, I remember saying over and over to myself and anyone else who would listen “there has got to be a better way”.

After a year in a corporate office, I quit my day job and went in search of more flexible working options that would help us to create a more flexible lifestyle for our family.

We wanted to create a lifestyle for our family that means we aren’t reliant on a traditional 9-5 (or longer) type of job to pay the bills. We want to be able to take time off work to spend with our boys and we want to enjoy our lives together before we hit retirement age.

We don’t need to wait until we’re old and grey to break the chains and get out from behind our desks (aka retire). There are better ways to work that mean we can get flexibility now and start enjoying our lives while still earning!

While we aren’t there yet, we’re pretty determined to get there. And our goal is to get there by the time we are both forty. That will enable us to break the chains, take flight and take our family on an epic worldwide road trip!

Right now we’re both 38, so we have less than two years if we want to achieve financial freedom by the time we are forty.

Here’s some of how do we plan to do it:

  1. We plan to make the most of our existing property portfolio. To do this we’ll need to sell some of the properties and pay off debt. This will provide more passive income.
  2. We need to get some of our other income streams working better for us. For example, we need to work on increasing revenue through increasing book and e-book sales.
  3. We need to add new passive income streams that can be done from anywhere in the world from a laptop.

And we want to share the journey with you because we’re pretty sure we aren’t alone in wanting more from life than a regular 9-5. We want financial freedom, and we want to help you get there too!
